Open Farm Sunday 2019

Posted on: Wednesday 12th June 2019
Yattendon Estates joined 360 farmers across the UK, participating in the annual open day organised by Linking Environment And Farming (LEAF).

Now in its 13th year the event saw 230,000 visitors get the chance to connect with where their food is grown, with over 550 visiting Yattendon Estate on Sunday 9th June.

There was a machinery display of modern-day machinery and the opportunity to get close to some of the livestock in the area, including the Estate’s British white cattle and turkey chicks from Walters Turkeys.Tractor and trailer rides around Haw Farm were very popular with a stop off to talk about how food was produced and environmental features on the Estate. Displays on how crops are grown, traceability of food and technology in farming proved popular. A working display beehive from Meadow Honey Farm also highlighted how the estate works closely to produce local honey and provide a habitat and food source for bumblebees.

Tea, coffee and a mountain of cake were served by a team of helpers, raising over £430 for Thames Valley Air Ambulance. Hog Roast and Ice creams also went down well with visitors. A massive thankyou to everyone who helped make the day a success by giving up their time.

Date for the diary is next year’s Open Farm Sunday Event on Sunday June 7th 2020!
